Hungary Suffers Setback in Euro 2024 Opener
Defeat to Switzerland Marred by Late Goal
Budapest, Hungary - June 15, 2024
Hungary's Euro 2024 campaign got off to a disappointing start on Saturday as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Switzerland in their opening match. Despite taking an early lead through Dominik Szoboszlai, the Hungarians allowed Switzerland to equalize just before halftime and then conceded two more goals in the second half, including a late one from substitute Breel Embolo.
The result leaves Hungary bottom of Group A after the first round of matches and with a mountain to climb if they are to progress to the knockout stages. Their next match is against the Netherlands on Tuesday, before they face Portugal in their final group game on Friday.
